Communication Lab Resources (July 2026)
Session 1
Nerves, calming the body and finding the breath.
Use the two audios below as often as you can to release unwanted tension in the body and connect to your breath. The voice is fueled by low, long, steady breath, and for many we have forgotten how.
These work well at the beginning of your day, will set you up for any speaking you have in your day, but you can sneak them into all sorts of places and times.
Exploring your presence and energy. How do you show up in the world. What it tells others, what messages you are sending to yourself? (I shared these with Liz after our session but think they are helpful for all.)
Session 2
Speaking outloud to prepare intro/ openning
Taking up space in a room with male colleagues + getting what you want using rugby ball analogy
Bigger stages and how to manage nerves when the stakes feel higher. Same person, different room.
Mental preparation: Imagery (elephant) and T-Cup words
Three audios below to use before speaking:
Grounded Voice is a quick one. Great before meetings and presentations or before a difficult conversation + anytime you notice shallow breath or tension in your body.
Long Warm-In does what it says. It is a longer warm in for when you have time. Opens up the vocal body, connects you to your breath. I recommend trying it to see how you feel on a day when you can connect more deeply to the body and notice how that impacts your voice and your general communication.
Mmmm, ooooo, aaaaah: Use this to ‘place’ the voice forward, directing it with more resonance and clarity to the person(s) we are talking to. When we feel nervous it is easy for us to shrink back, and our voice follows.
